Wallace County FB loses a player

I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Luke Schemm after collapsing on the sideline of the Wallace County vs Otis-Bison game last night.

Support the Luke Schemm Legacy, any money not used for funeral or medical expenses will be used to set up a scholarship in Luke’s name. The website is below.

New Football Coaches for 2016

Mike Lee, football coach of Andover, turned in his resignation yesterday. This means the coaches merry-go-round has begun again.  We have kept track of head football coach openings for years here at KansasPrepFootball.com and it has been one of our most visited pages during the off-season. So if you know of a coach opening, please let us know. We do try to confirm the opening and not list rumors. So please send us no gossip. Thank you.

10 Reasons to Join the Track Team

Found this great article  10 Reasons to Join the Track Team. Next is a quote from the article:

Every year, I attempt to recruit our best football players to the sport of track & field.  Track does not sell itself.  This article will focus on how I recruit athletes to the Plainfield North track program.  Some of the things we do will not be universal.  Hopefully this article gives track coaches some tools to promote your sport.  Hopefully this article will help athletes and their parents to develop a balanced approach to athletic participation.  The only adults promoting specialization are jackasses who benefit from specialization.  All true educators promote balance.

Just had to share some of the thoughts from this man. He has many more you can look up online but these today apply to football, in my opinion.

  1. The most important six inches on the battlefield is between your ears.
  2. You cannot allow any of your people to avoid the brutal facts. If they start living in a dream world, it’s going to be bad.
  3. Fight with a happy heart and strong spirit.
  4. I don’t lose any sleep at night over the potential for failure. I can’t even spell the word.

Random first thoughts

My first thoughts on the football season are, we are finally underway. The regular season of football is of course only 9 weeks long but the wait to get to the regular season is like waiting for the ketchup to come out of the old glass bottle in the olden days. It takes to long!

Olathe North beating Rogers Heritage, Arkansas seemed like a terrific win for the state of high school football in Kansas. Salina Central losing to Lawton, Oklahoma makes it feel like a step back. So guess were even. I like it that some of our Athletic Directors like to step out of state to play these games.

Silver Lake over Holton is no surprise but the four turnovers by Holton to me was disappointing in such a big game.

Larned won Friday night over Hoisington in double overtime 21-20. Larned has had a tough road to hoe lately, although last year the Indians went 7-3. I have heard the Indians are getting more kids out for football than in the past so that is good. Lacrosse will be a tough test this Friday night.

Speaking of Lacrosse have you checked out that enrollment for the Leopards? In class 2-1A the Leopards are listed as having 60 kids in school from freshman through junior year. That is the very bottom of the classification. Actually Lacrosse could be playing 8-man division II. Got to admire Lacrosse. Maxpreps has the Lacrosse football roster with 33 kids on the team. Really gotta love a team like this. Go Leopards!

Speaking of Lacrosse makes me think of one of their old head coaches who now coaches at Hutch High, Coach C. Hutch only scored 2 points Friday night. The Salthawks almost laid an egg against Olathe South. Kind of confirms my feeling that the best football in the state is being played in the KC area, the Sunflower and EKL leagues. Hutch High will get better. New coaches, new teams there is always a learning curve.

In 8-man football the best of the best is Hanover. Anybody in 8-man going to make me eat my words?
